Area9 Lyceum to Offer Complimentary Education for Healthcare Professionals
Area9 Lyceum is now offering complimentary access to the AACC Learning Lab: an adaptive learning program housed on the NEJM Knowledge+ platform.
The goal is to expand and enhance the knowledge of laboratory medicine experts and promote their problem-solving abilities. Now, the cost of the Learning Lab is being eliminated for healthcare workers, allowing laboratory professionals around the world to access this advanced learning resource for free.
The AACC Learning Lab was developed through a collaboration among AACC, a global scientific and medical professional organization dedicated to better health through laboratory medicine; NEJM Group, the publisher of the New England Journal of Medicine; and Area9 Lyceum, a global leader in adaptive learning technology. As an adaptive learning platform, AACC Learning Lab combines gold-standard content with the most efficient, engaging, and effective way to increase proficiency and expand knowledge.
Eliminating the cost of the AACC Learning Lab removes the financial barrier so that individuals at hospitals, companies, and universities are able to incorporate this program in their educational activities.
“We are fully committed to the democratization of education. Every laboratory medicine professional and trainee worldwide should be able to access and benefit from this program, regardless of their financial abilities,” said Nader Rifai, Ph.D., a Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School, the Louis Joseph Gay-Lussac Chair in Laboratory Medicine, and Director of Clinical Chemistry at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is also editor-in-chief of Clinical Chemistry and the co-editor-in-chief of AACC Learning Lab for Laboratory Medicine on NEJM Knowledge+.
As of 2020, the AACC Learning Lab has been used by more than 100,000 healthcare professionals worldwide. Usage has increased significantly during the Covid-19 pandemic, underscoring the importance of laboratory medicine to respond to the crisis. Through adaptive technology, the AACC Learning Lab adapts to meet lab professionals’ goals, pace, and knowledge gaps, while delivering the information they need to improve patient health outcomes, while also enhancing their own careers.
“More than 100 thought leaders and experts have built one of the largest new curriculum without compensation for an entire profession. We view it as our responsibility and our goal to make the AACC Learning Lab accessible to everyone so that we increase its utility and make an impact on our field,” Rifai added.
The AACC Learning Lab for Laboratory Medicine on NEJM Knowledge+ provides continuing education materials for professionals and trainees in laboratory medicine. It covers all disciplines in the field including general lab medicine, clinical chemistry, hematology and coagulation, transfusion medicine, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, and clinical immunology in seven separate, curriculum-based programs. Each program, written and edited by leaders in the field, consists of approximately 20 courses addressing different topics in that discipline. The courses help healthcare professionals prepare for certification, competency assessment, and continuing medical education.
Additionally, much of the material used for the clinical chemistry and molecular diagnostics courses is derived primarily from research and papers published in AACC’s Clinical Chemistry journal.
"Since the launch of the AACC Learning Lab, we have proudly participated in this unique alliance among three authorities — NEJM Group, AACC, and Area9 Lyceum,” said Ulrik Juul Christensen, M.D., CEO of Area9 Lyceum. “Now, we are happy to support this flagship project and giant effort to extend the reach of the platform to healthcare professionals everywhere.”
The AACC Learning Lab is designed for a wide range of clinical laboratory professionals, including clinical pathologists, clinical chemists, microbiologists, medical technologists and laboratory technicians who want to expand their knowledge and build and maintain proficiency in a fast-paced, ever-evolving field.
