Adaptive Approach Moves Beyond Completion to Greater Engagement.

Area9 Lyceum and Corporate Counseling Associates Inc. (CCA) are partnering to develop a sexual harassment prevention training course using Area9’s adaptive learning technology and artificial intelligence-enabled platform.

The adaptive harassment prevention training is designed to enable employers to comply with the latest revisions to New York State and New York City employment laws regarding prevention of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Changes in regulations include mandatory training for employees, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, vendors, and others who conduct business or provide a service in the workplace, both in government and the private sector.

“Protecting employees and keeping people safe in the workplace is a top priority for every employer,” said Ulrik Juul Christensen, M.D., CEO of Area9 Lyceum, who is recognized worldwide as an expert in adaptive learning. “Deploying the latest in adaptive learning technology to anti-sexual harassment training will help ensure that employees do more than merely complete an online course. Adaptive learning increases learner engagement with the content to support their understanding.”

“CCA is excited to be partnering with one of the premier providers of adaptive learning technology,” said Manendra Bhugra, MA, LMSW, CCA’s Manager of Learning and Development, who has been instrumental in developing and delivering CCA’s Harassment Prevention Training to organizations throughout the U.S. “Beyond ease of access, Area9’s platform is conducive to accommodating CCA’s experiential, interactive approach to learning, which incorporates real-life examples, skill application and facilitator feedback. This methodology increases the potential for immediate transfer of knowledge to the workplace, and reduces organizational risk by helping employees understand what constitutes harassment in order to prevent it.”

Area9’s adaptive learning platform is particularly well-suited for compliance training such as sexual harassment prevention because of its emphasis on increasing learner knowledge with greater efficiency than traditional, static computer-based e-learning. Adaptive learning has been shown to increases both competence in required knowledge as well as confidence in what the learner knows.

The New York State sexual harassment prevention regulations applies to supervisors and employees in companies with 15 or more employees. Similar regulations are in effect under New York City’s Local Law 96 as part of its “Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Act.” Effective April 2019, New York City employers will have one year to implement training for all employees and must ensure all employees are trained annual thereafter.

The Area9-CCA adaptive harassment prevention training will meet all requirements of the New York State and New York City regulations for delivering training to supervisors, employees, and other individuals covered by the laws.
